The music video, shot by Parris Mayhew, features Em in a provocative gown, her raven hair streaked in white, and deep red lipstick. Mystical elements such as ghostly clones, tarot cards, and raindrops that turn to tears are also present. Em says this video was inspire by Lana Del Rey’s storytelling in the way it represents women of today, but through a 50’s and 60’s lens. “Say What You Mean” without a doubt represents the ethereal and emotional side of Em’s songwriting. Lana Del Rey isn’t Em’s only musical inspiration. She has also drawn from icons Stevie Nicks, Carly Simon, and Alanis Morissette, and it shows in her art. She’s already preparing her next album Embrace: Heaven on Earth, who she’ll be working with former Motown songwriter/producer Michael B. Sutton (Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson). We’re looking forward to it! Don’t forget to listen to “Say What You Mean” on Apple Music here.
